The US Justice Department’s Charges
The US Justice Department said last month that an official in the Indian government had planned a botched attempt to kill Pannun on US territory. Nikhil Gupta, an Indian national, was subsequently charged with organizing the alleged murder.

PM Modi addressed the accusations and expressed confidence in the continuing nature of the India-US partnership in an interview with the Financial Times. Gurpatwant Singh Pannun is still controversial after being labeled a terrorist by India in 2020 for his involvement in spreading Khalistani separatist ideas among Sikhs. Prime Minister Modi restated India’s worries on Sikh separatism and berated the West and Canada for their inaction in putting a stop to such activities.
