The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and the Delhi Cabinet were jolted by the resignation of Minister Raaj Kumar Anand on April 10. The principal rationale behind Anand’s decision was the party’s purported inability to offer Dalits sufficient representation.
Questions at the Press Conference
Anand claimed in a news conference that he was disappointed in the AAP leadership and that Dalits were underrepresented among the party’s top leaders. In addition to stressing the value of proportionate representation, he said that the Dalit community felt betrayed by the party’s treatment of its MLAs, council members, and ministers.
Raj Kumar Anand’s Charges Against the AAP for Corruption
Anand further criticised the AAP for abandoning its anti-corruption stance, especially in view of the party leaders that have recently been arrested, including Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, in relation to the now-cancelled Delhi Excise Policy case. He said he could no longer be associated with a party that was being accused of corruption and expressed his concerns about the party’s integrity.
Reports of BJP Influence
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), according to AAP leader Sanjay Singh, was responsible for Raj Kumar’s resignation. He said that the BJP used federal agencies like the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) and Enforcement Directorate (ED) to undermine the AAP. Singh called it an attempt to “break” AAP ministers and MLAs and called it a loyalty test.
Arvind Kejriwal’s leadership criticized
Arvind Kejriwal, the chief minister of Delhi, was mocked by Raj Kumar. He is incarcerated in Tihar jail following his arrest in judicial custody in connection with a money laundering case involving excise policies. Inquiring about Kejriwal’s leadership, he drew attention to the discrepancy between the party’s early pledges of reform and the state of politics now..
Decision of the High Court and Resignation Date
Anand explained in response to questions concerning the time of his resignation that it was not a matter of timing but rather a realization brought on by recent occurrences, such as the decision made by the Delhi High Court to uphold Kejriwal’s incarceration. Anand decided to break ties with the AAP after the court’s ruling raised doubts about the party’s morality.
