The literary and television communities expressed their sorrow on Tuesday at the passing of legendary person Mir Mohammad Farooq Nazki. Nazki, an 83-year-old Sahitya Akademi award winner, seasoned broadcaster, and skilled poet, passed away at a Katra hospital.

As a journalist, Farooq Nazki started his career in 1960 by writing for the “Zamindar” newspaper. He was dedicated about bringing attention to the problems that the working class faced. He showed a multifaceted personality that made a lasting impression in the fields of writing and radio before he switched to poetry in 1967.

Literary Origins and Guidance

Farooq Nazki is the son of renowned Kashmiri poet and author Ghulam Rasool Nazki, who initiated his son’s literary career. The Nazki family, who originated in the Bandipora district’s Madar village, had a big influence on the development of Kashmir’s culture.

The impact of Nazki went beyond his artistic endeavors. As the head of Doordarshan and All India Radio Srinagar, he significantly influenced the development of the media and communication environment in the area.

“Naar Hyutun Kanzal Wanas” (Fire in the eyelashes), Nazki’s book of poetry, won the Sahitya Akademi prize in Kashmiri in 1995. He advised 2 chief ministers, Farooq Abdullah and Omar Abdullah, on media matters in addition to his literary works.
