Ukraine’s President Zelensky Accuses Russia of Weaponizing Food and Energy Supplies at UN General Assembly

Zelensky

Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelensky blasted Russia for its continuing war against Ukraine in a stirring speech at the 78th UN General Assembly. He blamed Moscow for turning basic resources like food and electricity into weapons, saying that this had made his country and other countries’ poverty levels worse.

Support Request from President Zelensky:

Throughout his speech in New York, President Zelensky fervently pleaded for greater international assistance in Ukraine’s battle with Russia. In order to prevent a nuclear-armed Moscow from provoking a catastrophic global battle, he claimed that Ukraine is leading the fight in securing the world against mighty and hostile nations.

Resource weaponization:

Zelensky’s speech emphasized his belief that Russia had weaponized not just its military strength but also essential supplies like food and energy. He claimed that this strategy worsens the economic problems and suffering both in Ukraine and outside.

Global Effects:

President Zelensky stressed in his speech a pressing need to combat the Russian dread. He argued that the international community could only successfully address major global issues like climate change if Moscow was pushed back.

Calling for Accountability:

Zelensky demanded that weaponization be restrained, war crimes be punished, deported people be allowed to go back to their homes, and occupiers be removed from Ukrainian territory. He also affirmed his conviction that Russia is not entitled to nuclear arms.

Genocide accusations:

President Zelensky declared that by taking Ukrainian children, Russia had committed “genocide.” Regarding the wrongful deportation of Ukrainian kids to Russia, the International Criminal Court (ICC) filed an arrest order for Russian President Vladimir Putin in March. Despite accumulating proof, Russia has continuously refuted these allegations that war crimes were committed in Ukraine.

Warning Against Unfair Deals:

Zelensky issued a warning against questionable deals that would seek to resolve the conflict unfairly. He emphasized that the result of the war would have an international impact.

The Peace Formula:

Zelensky reaffirmed his peace formula, first put up at the G20 Summit this past year, that calls for steps to safeguard Ukraine’s food exports, safeguard the supply of energy plus infrastructure, and set up a prisoner exchange program with Russia. Ukraine’s plan, which seeks to reclaim sovereignty over areas within Russian control, has the support of over 140 nations as well as international organizations.
