At Cochin University of Science and Technology (CUSAT), there was a tragic stampede-like occurrence that led to fatalities and serious injuries during a tech fest concert.
CUSAT Concert Chaos
During a tech fest, singer Nikhita Gandhi was playing in an outdoor auditorium on the CUSAT campus. Pass holders were the only ones allowed entry, but an unexpected downpour caused many outside to rush in, creating a chaotic stampede.
Deaths and injuries
At least four students—two boys and two girls—lost their lives in the rush, while more than sixty more were injured. After the injured were quickly taken to Kalamassery Medical College, four students were sadly pronounced dead there.
Government Regrets and Responses
The relatives of the victims received sincere condolences from Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, who expressed shock over the occurrence. For the injured, immediate and improved medical treatment facilities were set up. A full inquiry is scheduled to begin, and ministers for enterprises and higher education are currently on the scene to assess the situation.
Factors Adding to the Disaster
