Shiv Sena Legislator Renowned Maharashtra politician Anil Kalajerao Babar passed away in Sangli at the age of 74 following a brief illness. Babar’s lengthy political career came to an end when he was admitted to the hospital with pneumonia and unable to recover from the illness.
Anil Babar’s Political Career
After joining Sharad Pawar’s NCP for more than 15 years at the age of 19, Babbar started his political career with the Congress. He then allied himself with Shiv Sena. His political contributions, which centered on issues affecting farmers and development initiatives, stretched decades and he was repeatedly elected as a MLA.
State Pays Homage and Expresses Condolences
Chief Minister Eknath Shinde called for a full state funeral for Babar and canceled the cabinet meeting. Shinde highlighted the important role Babar had in the Maha Vikas Aghadi government by traveling to Sangli with cabinet ministers to pay their respects.
One of Babar’s political legacies is his four terms as an MLA, which he won in 1990, 1999, 2014, as well as 2019. He didn’t get appointed to the government in 2019 despite predictions. Unwavering in his commitment, he joined Shinde’s faction during the Shiv Sena split in 2022.
CM Shinde was present at the full state honours funeral ceremonies for Anil Babar, which were held in Vita. Maharashtra was profoundly impacted by Babar’s deep friendship with the chief minister and his dedication to public duty.
