A Daughter’s Plea
Mary Lou Retton’s 26-year-old daughter McKenna Kelley recently made a sincere appeal that shed light on the health battle her mother is currently facing. Since Mary Lou’s condition is so critical, her family has had more than a week in the intensive care unit (ICU). McKenna did not go into depth out of respect for her mother’s privacy, but she did mention the significant effect on her mother’s capacity to breathe.
Financial Challenges
Mary Lou Retton doesn’t have health insurance right now, which complicates matters further. In an effort to raise money for her growing medical bills, McKenna made an earnest appeal for prayers and donations. She stressed the importance of financial support at this time, stating that anything, anything at all, would be extremely beneficial for her family and her mother.

Mary Lou Retton, a well-known name in American sports, is honored for her outstanding accomplishments in gymnastics. She won five medals for her legendary performance in the 1984 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles, including the coveted gold in the individual all-around category. She made history by being the very first American woman to win this prestigious award .
Retton retired in Houston, Texas, where she had relocated to train alongside renowned trainer Bela Karolyi. In 2020, she joined prominent individuals like Olympic track great Carl Lewis as well as former Rockets coach Rudy Tomjanovich in receiving induction at the Houston Sports Hall of Fame in acknowledgment of her tremendous contributions to the world of sports.
