In the Bengaluru Rameshwaram Cafe bombing investigation, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) made progress when they located and detained two people, including the suspected mastermind, in the vicinity of Kolkata, West Bengal. Abdul Matheen Taha, who is thought to be the mastermind of the attack, and Mussavir Hussain Shazib, who put the improvised explosive device (IED), have been named as the suspects.
NIA’s Discovery
The NIA found and apprehended the fugitive accused with the help of state police forces from West Bengal, Telangana, Karnataka, and Kerala as well as central intelligence agencies. After almost three weeks of working together, the suspects who had been living in Kolkata under false pretences were apprehended.
The National Investigation Agency and West Bengal police collaborated on the arrest as part of their joint operation. The wanted photos of individuals and other details were previously made public by the NIA, along with a reward announcement for information that leads to their arrest.
Specifics of the Probe
In order to identify the culprits, the NIA combed through more than 300 CCTV tapes as part of its bomb investigation. Security agencies had been keeping an eye on Taha, the alleged planner, and Shazib, who planted the IED at the cafe. Both men are thought to be connected to the Islamic State.
After the explosion at the cafe, the Bengaluru Police first filed a case under the Explosives Substances Act and the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act. CCTV footage from the explosion on March 1 shows a suspect leaving a backpack inside the building. According to investigations, an IED explosive with a timer was used to carry out the attack.
