A model from Karachi named Erica Robin just made history by taking home the prestigious “Miss Universe Pakistan” crown. Many people all over the world praised her accomplishment as the first model from Pakistan to be chosen for the international beauty pageant. Her choice, however, sparked debate, with several Pakistani politicians and religious figures expressing their opposition.

The Controversy Surrounding Erica Robin

In Pakistan, there was opposition to Erica’s Robin’s triumph from a number of sources. Taqi Usmani, a religious figure, denounced her participation in the contest and demanded that the government take action against the competition’s organizers. The Jamaat-e-Islami party senator from Pakistan, Mushtaq Ahmed Khan, also voiced his displeasure, criticising the event’s organisers and calling it a “shameful act.”

Government Inquiry

Anwaar-ul-Haq Kakar, the caretaker prime minister of Pakistan, gave the order to the nation’s intelligence agency to investigate the event’s organizers in reaction to the criticism. He questioned how they were able to host the pageant without getting permission from the government and described the entire thing as a “shameful act” and a “insult as well as exploitation of women in Pakistan.”

Erica’s Viewpoint

Erica Robin considered the criticism she received in the midst of the uproar. In addition to expressing her joy at representing Pakistan, she also noted how perplexed she was by the harsh responses. She claims that the criticism seems to be the result of misunderstandings regarding the Miss Universe contest, specifically the idea of swimsuit competitions.

Erica Robin is aware of the enormous responsibility she bears as the first Pakistani participant in the Miss Universe competition. She is still committed to representing her nation with pride on the international stage in spite of the controversy.

The Miss Universe Pakistan pageant took place at the Brenna Kottefaru hotel on the scenic Raa Atoll in the Maldives on October 5. Mark your calendars for November 18, 2023, as the 72nd Miss Universe pageant is scheduled to be held at the National Gymnasium in San Salvador, El Salvador. We wish her all the best!
