Following an emergency hospitalization, Kuwait’s ruler, Sheikh Nawaf Al-Ahmed Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, has passed away. Despite his demise, the country is expected to maintain its course as one of the world’s leading petroleum exporters and a key member of OPEC.

Succession Amidst Grief

The mantle passes to Crown Prince Sheikh Meshal al-Ahmad al-Sabah, aged 83, who has been the de facto ruler since 2021. The demise of Sheikh Nawaf is not foreseen to bring about alterations to the country’s oil policies, and Crown Prince Sheikh Meshal is poised to take on the leadership of the nation.

International Condolences

In response to Sheikh Nawaf’s passing, Hardeep Singh Puri, the Minister of Petroleum and Natural Gas, serves as the Prime Minister’s special envoy. Puri will extend condolences to Kuwait and personally deliver letters from the President and Prime Minister of India to Sheikh Meshal.
