Indian Army Colonel, Major, and DSP Martyred in Fierce Encounter with Terrorists

In a tragic sequence of events, a Major, a Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) of the Jammu and Kashmir Police, plus an Indian Army Colonel leading a Rashtriya Rifles Unit passed away in a deadly battle with terrorists in the district of Anantnag on Wednesday.

According to a police officer, the incident occurred as a sad episode in the continuing fight against terror and involved a grim struggle involving security forces and terrorists hiding in the Kokernag area of the Anantnag district.

Tragically, the unfortunate tragedy follows a separate encounter that happened on Tuesday in the Narla neighborhood of Rajouri, Jammu, and Kashmir, where the brave security personnel killed two terrorists. Specifically, during the next search operation, the security forces discovered an ample supply of military equipment, including medications with prominent Pakistani markings.

The tragic confrontation resulted from meticulous tracking of two terrorists’ activities by the Indian army and Jammu and Kashmir police beginning on September 7, according to Lieutenant Colonel Suneel Bartwal, the Defense Public Relations Officer (PRO).

Early on Wednesday, in the Garol region of the Anantnag district, Colonel Manpreet Singh, the leader of the 19 Rashtriya Rifles, Major Ashish Dhonack, as well as Deputy Superintendent Humayun Bhat engaged the armed militants head-on. Tragically, while commanding his squad in a daring assault against the terrorists, Colonel Singh was shot by the terrorists and died as a result of his severe injuries. As an aftermath of gunshot wounds they received during the fight, Major Dhonack along with Deputy Superintendent Bhat passed away.

Deputy Superintendent Humayun Bhat, one of the fallen heroes, died from his injuries as a result of severe bleeding. He was a father to a two-month-old girl and the son of former Jammu and Kashmir Police Inspector General Ghulam Hasan Bhat. The demise of these courageous individuals has shocked the community and brought attention to the ongoing difficulties security forces confront in upholding stability and peace in Jammu & Kashmir.
