Germany’s remarks regarding Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s arrest in the Delhi liquor policy case have elicited a furious response from India. Concerns were raised by Germany’s Foreign Ministry on India’s obligation to respect democratic values and guarantee Kejriwal a fair trial.

Germany’s Stance

At a press conference, a representative of the German Foreign Ministry emphasised the significance of democratic principles and the autonomy of the legal system. The presumption of innocence and Kejriwal’s right to a fair trial were highlighted by the spokesperson.

India’s Reaction

To show its strong disapproval, India called the German Embassy’s Deputy Chief of Mission in New Delhi. Germany’s comments, according to the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), interfere with India’s domestic affairs and threaten the judiciary’s independence.

India is a thriving democracy with a strong rule of law, the MEA highlighted. It was emphasised once more that Kejriwal’s case will be handled independently of other cases. India criticised any skewed presumptions made about the situation.

The communication between both countries emphasizes how crucial it is to honour each nation’s legal system and sovereignty. India’s response aims to deter outside intervention while reiterating its adherence to democratic principles and the rule of law.
