Delhi

Much-needed rainfall took place on Thursday night and Friday morning in a number of locations across Delhi, Gurugram, Noida, and the surrounding districts. In light of the recent period of bad air quality in the National Capital Region (NCR), this sudden Artificial shower was a welcome relief.

Effect on Delhi’s Air Quality

The poor air quality that has prevailed for the past three days was briefly relieved by the rain. Images taken from the Delhi-Noida border, Kartavya Path, and ITO revealed light to moderate rain. Notably, on Friday morning, the air quality index (AQI) at several Delhi monitoring sites showed readings around 100, which is a notable improvement over the 400+ AQI that was recorded during the night.

Government’s Efforts for Artificial Rain

This occurs amidst the Delhi government’s attempt to alleviate pollution by implementing “artificial rain.” The concept entails using cloud seeding to create rain. The administration is actively investigating this possibility, and if the weather permits, it may be implemented on November 20–21.

Recently, Gopal Rai, the Environment Minister, met with an IIT-Kanpur team to talk about the viability of creating artificial rains. In an effort to reduce dangerous air pollution in the city, the government has made the decision to cover all associated costs. Before the Supreme Court, the chief secretary will argue the government’s case.

 Air Quality Improvement

There is some hope for better air quality as the Regional Weather Forecasting Centre (RWFC) has predicted light, intermittent rains in various parts of Delhi and the National Capital Region. Locations like Sohana, Rewari, Aurangabad, Meerut, and others are anticipated to gain from the rain.

As Delhi grapples with air pollution concerns, the recent rainfall, along with the government’s proactive measures, signals a collective effort to address the environmental challenges faced by the city. The focus on artificial rain and ongoing initiatives demonstrate a commitment to finding innovative solutions for the well-being of residents.
