Danny Masterson is sentenced to 30 Years of Life in Prison
Danny Masterson, who is most recognized for the role he played in “That ’70s Show,” was found guilty of raping two women and was given a sentence of 30 years to life in prison. Allegations that Masterson utilized his influential status inside the Church of Scientology to dodge accountability have also made this high-profile case stand out, in addition to the severity of the charges.
Masterson was initially charged with sexual misconduct in 2017, which is when the allegations against him first surfaced. The Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) conducted a detailed investigation as an outcome of this accusation. He was officially charged in June 2020 for raping three women, including his ex-girlfriend, in his Hollywood Hills home between 2001 and 2003. These three women had all been associated with the Church of Scientology.
Three women testified painfully at the trial that Masterson had sexually attacked them and had given them drugs before these events occurred, according to their accounts. Ultimately, two of Masterson’s accusers testified that he had committed rape. The prosecution chose not to pursue a retrial in the case involving the third accused, which led to a mistrial.
The Church of Scientology’s claimed role in obstructing details of these assaults was a crucial aspect of this prosecution. Several accusers stated that Church officials dissuaded them from informing law enforcement about the rapes. Surprisingly, one victim claimed that she was pressured into signing a non-disclosure agreement and taking a sizeable $400,000 payment to stay silent.
Masterson’s defense team wanted a new trial prior to sentencing, however, Judge Charlaine Olmedo rejected this request, which cemented the actor’s hefty prison term.
