BTS RM Addresses Accusations of Islamophobia, Affirms Respect for All Beliefs

BTS RM: The leader of the internationally known South Korean band BTS, RM, recently made a sincere and frank speech concerning the allegations of Islamophobia that were brought on by his seemingly innocuous action of uploading Frank Ocean’s song “Bad Religion” on his Instagram stories. The artist claimed that his acts were not intended to offend anyone and that they were simply intended to clarify his point of view.

This claim started when RM shared the song recommendation “Bad Religion,” which was written by the well-known musician Frank Ocean. The song explores topics like unrequited love and inner feelings. Some viewers, however, deemed certain lyrics in the song to be controversial and perceived them as possibly Islamophobic. This interpretation sparked a flood of complaints and demands for him to apologize.

RM used his leisure time apart from BTS to engage with followers on Weverse through a livestream. The artist made the decision to face the claims head-on while continuing to be truthful and forthcoming, as is his style. He made it clear that he never intended to disparage or offend any faith or way of life. He, on the other hand, showed great respect for all faiths and beliefs.

RM drew a parallel to the powerful address he gave at the United Nations in 2019 while reiterating his firm opposition to intolerance based on race, religion, nationality, skin tone, or gender identity. He highlighted that he values diversity as well as he has no space in his heart for prejudice or hostility.

RM refused to apologize for sharing the music or voicing his own opinion, standing by it with confidence. He emphasized that his goal was to be open and honest and that he didn’t think doing so would be damaging to anyone’s views. He cautioned followers not to be misled by people who could misinterpret his motives and advised them to take his clarification with an open mind.

During the livestream, RM bared his feelings regarding the controversy, revealing that he had been bottling up his thoughts. He expressed his desire to convey his truth, standing by his principles of authenticity and transparency. Recognizing that he might not be able to convince everyone, he appealed to his fans to have faith in his words and his integrity.
