Major airlines cancelled hundreds of flights to and from Tel Aviv Following the surprise large-scale strike against Israel by the Palestinian militants group Hamas this weekend,
Cancellations at Tel Aviv’s Ben Gurion International Airport
Airlines pulling flights included American Airlines, Air France, Lufthansa, Emirates, Ryanair, even Aegean Airlines, according to the arrivals board of Tel Aviv’s Ben Gurion International Airport.
Several departing flights were also halted.
Lufthansa Implements Safety Measures
According to an AFP report, Lufthansa has cancelled all flights from and to Tel Aviv up to and including Monday due to the present security situation in Israel
He added that the airline was continually monitoring the security environment in Israel.
Flights from Air France are cancelled
Flights from Air France also have been suspended “until further notice”.
Transavia, a low-cost airline operated by the Air France-KLM group, also postponed its departure from Paris to Tel Aviv on Saturday night.
Other Airlines Affected
Polish airline LOT announced on Saturday in Warsaw that it had also cancelled a flight.
Airport administrators did not, however, halt commercial plane connections with Eilat, Israel’s secondary international airport and a popular vacation spot on the Red Sea.
Flight Cancellations by Air India
Until October 14, Air India’s aircraft from and to Tel Aviv have been cancelled, the airline announced on Sunday.
The airline will provide every assistance to travellers who have confirmed reservations on any aircraft at this time.
Five flights per week are made from the nation’s capital to that destination by the full-service airline. The service is available every day but Wednesday and Friday.
Prime Minister Modi Shows Support
After Hamas militants attacked Israel on Saturday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi voiced his support for Israel.
As Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said that Israel is at war, Modi blasted them as “terrorist attacks” in Israel.
