Russia recently carried out enormous exercises to practice its ability to carry out a “massive” nuclear strike as a reaction to a the enemy’s nuclear attack. This was a significant step.

President Vladimir Putin was informed about the drills by Sergei Shoigu, the minister of defense. During these drills, real ballistic and cruise missile launches took place, including the firing of a Yars intercontinental ballistic weapon from Russia’s testing facility in the far east and another missile from a nuclear-powered submarine on the sea of Barents.

Russia Withdraws from Global Test Ban Treaty

The Comprehensive Nuclear Test Ban Treaty (CTBT), a worldwide agreement that forbids any physical testing of nuclear warheads, was withdrawn by Moscow, as approved by the Russian Duma, parallel with these drills. Since the United States signed the CTBT but never ratified it, this judgment is consistent with American policy.

The CTBT, which was founded in 1996, seeks to outlaw nuclear explosions globally, including those related to nuclear weapon tests. Although Russia says it won’t restart nuclear testing until the United States does, analysts caution that either country’s nuclear testing might start a new arms race, particularly given the continuing crises in West Asia and Ukraine.

Vladimir Putin’s Nuclear Warnings

Vladimir Putin,  has also hinted at the potential of restarting nuclear testing for the first time in more than thirty years and highlighted concerns about nuclear capabilities, particularly the “Satan-2” and “Flying Chernobyl” missiles.

The circumstance highlights the intricate mechanics of international nuclear relations and the possibility of escalating hostilities in a volatile globe.

In the upcoming months, it will be crucial to keep an eye on how these changes affect international relations and global security.
