Kamala Harris

In an effort to stop the “inhumane” circumstances in Gaza and prevent a “humanitarian catastrophe” among the Palestinian people, Vice President Kamala Harris demanded an immediate ceasefire. One of the most forceful positions taken by a top U.S. official since the start of the conflict is represented by her comments.

Kamala Harris’s proposal for a six-week cease-fire

Insisting that a six-week truce be implemented immediately, Harris suggested that a settlement could be widely accepted by Israel provided Hamas released its most vulnerable prisoners. Aiming to address the growing number of civilian deaths in Gaza, the proposed accord would ease suffering and make significant assistance delivery easier.

In light of the Gaza conflict and the increased criticism President Joe Biden is receiving for US backing of Israel, Harris’s remarks underscore the administration’s mounting stress over the number of civilian casualties.

Israeli Conditions and Ceasefire Talks

However, after Hamas refused Israel’s demand for a detailed list of the hostages still alive, Israel boycotted the ceasefire negotiations in Cairo.

Kamala Harris emphasised the chance to bring hostages back to their families and give Gazans instant relief in a strong statement urging Hamas to agree to the proposed ceasefire agreement.

The Vice President used unusually forceful language to directly address Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, pressing for actions to strengthen the appeal for a truce and to enhance the flow of supplies into Gaza.
