Animal rights activists affiliated with People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) interrupted Victoria Beckham’s highly anticipated Paris Fashion Week show by joining models on the runway. Even though Beckham’s company forbids the use of fur and exotic skins in its designs, the protest attempted to raise awareness of the usage of animal skins in the fashion industry.

“Animals Aren’t Fabric” and “Viva Vegan Leather”

Protesters held placards that said “Viva vegan leather” and donned T-shirts with the phrase “Animals aren’t fabric.” The event emphasized PETA’s continuous battle against the fashion industry’s usage of materials produced from animals and called on them to switch to more morally and environmentally responsible options.

PETA’s Advice on Environmentally Friendly Leather Options

Victoria Beckham’s company has removed fur and exotic skins, according to PETA. The animal rights organization did note that calfskin and other types of leather are still in use. Mimi Bekhechi, Vice President of PETA for Europe, said that no clothing should justify the cruel treatment of animals and urged Beckham to look into more environmentally friendly leather options, such as leather manufactured from fruit such as apples, grapes, pineapples, fungi, and other plants.

Victoria Beckham’s sudden appearance on crutches, exposing a foot ailment, added a surprising twist to the ending. The event went on, presenting the Spice Girls singer’s autumn/winter 2024 collection, in spite of the interruption.

PETA activists, who are well-known for their disruptive protests, have been a regular sight at international fashion shows this season, including those in New York, London, and Milan. Their exhibits highlight the necessity of moral behavior and environmentally friendly decisions in the fashion industry.
