Nafe Singh Rathee, the 66-year-old head of the Indian National Lok Dal (INLD) in Haryana, and an associate were shot and killed on Sunday in Bahadurgarh, Jhajjar district. The incident triggered shockwaves through Haryana’s political system.

Former MLA Rathee was travelling on in an SUV when unknown gunmen opened fire on their car, leaving Rathee and his companion fatally injured, according to INLD spokesperson Rakesh Sihag. Rathee allegedly recruited private security guards, but the attack still happened.

Jai Kishan, a resident of Jhajjar’s Mandothi village, who was Singh’s associate has also been pronounced dead.

Charges Against the INLD Leader Despite Repeated Threats to Nafe Singh Rathee’s Life

In spite of reported threats to Nafe Singh Rathee’s life, INLD leader Abhay Chautala has accused the state government of failing to provide him with sufficient security. Given the occurrence, Chautala has called for the resignation of State Home Minister Anil Vij and Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar.

 

Sihag disclosed that three private security guards who were with Nafe Singh Rathee were also shot during the assault and are currently receiving medical attention. Four people with bullet wounds came at the hospital, two of them died from their wounds from heavy bleeding, according to the attending physician.

Authorities have responded quickly to the incident, and efforts are being made to identify and capture those responsible.
