In a recent revolutionary study, researchers from China along with the University of Nottingham discovered worrying mutational modifications taking place in the H3N8 avian influenza virus (AIV), a subtype of the avian flu virus that is prevalent in Chinese poultry farms. These genetic changes could perhaps boost the probability of disease spreading to humans, posing grave worries about the possibility of an impending epidemic or pandemic.
