In response to Congressman Rahul Gandhi’s recent criticism of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the Election Commission is taking notice and sent out a letter for an explanation. A complaint had been made by the BJP, claiming that the Model Code of Conduct had been broken.

Context

Rahul Gandhi disparaged PM Modi by calling him a “pickpocket” and a “panauti,” two phrases that signify bad luck. The remarks caused a stir and resulted in the BJP filing an official complaint with the Election Commission.

Election Commission Notice to Rahul Gandhi

Rahul Gandhi has till this Saturday at 6 p.m. to respond to the Election Commission’s notice and state why he should not be prosecuted for breaking the Model Code of Conduct.

BJP’s Viewpoint

In its protest, the BJP drew attention to a pattern of institutionalized, ongoing animosity towards Prime Minister Modi and emphasized how such unjustified remarks harm the democratic dialogue.

Law and Order Issues in Rajasthan

 Former Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje brought attention to the declining state of law and order in Rajasthan and chastised the Congress-led administration for it. She called attention in particular to the surge in crimes committed against women and the regular occurrences of student-impacting paper leaks.

Challenges experienced

Citing about 19 cases of paper leaks, Raje highlighted the difficulties experienced by students in the state. She voiced concern that the government’s pledges seemed to be empty platitudes with no real implementation.
