Controversy Surrounds Canadian Punjabi Singer Shubh’s Mumbai Concert Amid Allegations of Khalistani Support

Shubhneet Singh, better known by his stage name Shubh, a Canadian Punjabi musician, has found himself at the center of a growing controversy around his upcoming show in Mumbai. The musician has been accused of aiding separatist Khalistani forces, according to charges put forward by Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM) activists.

When BJYM supporters tore off Shubh’s posters in Mumbai, they did so on the pretense that the singer’s use of social media showed his support for Khalistani separatists. One specific post went viral and drew criticism for its altered map of India, which prominently left out Jammu and Kashmir plus Punjab. Shubh had posted this at a time when Amritpal Singh, a wanted fugitive, was being sought by the Punjab Police.

Since numerous of Shubh’s supporters have been detained as a result of this dispute, the Akali Dal party has expressed worry about the imprisonment of innocent young people.

Even well-known individuals, like previous Team India captain Virat Kohli, who was seen swaying to Shubh’s hit song “Elevated” in a popular video, unfollowed the singer on Instagram in the wake of the continuing scandal. KL Rahul as well as Hardik Pandya, both cricket players, adopted a comparable approach by unfollowing Shubh on social networks.

Representatives of the BJYM have been outspoken in their disapproval of Shubh’s performance in Mumbai. According to BJYM President Tajinder Singh Tiwana, there is no place for Khalistanis, whom they consider as the enemy of India’s unity and integrity. Shubh, a Canadian singer, is not welcome to play in Mumbai, Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj’s auspicious birthplace. Tiwana added that the concert’s organizers would encounter opposition if the required steps were not taken. Additionally, the BJYM has urged that Shubh’s performances in India be canceled.

Shubh’s career has reached a turning point as he began his three-month “Still Rollin India Tour,” a musical adventure that will take him to 12 key Indian cities, including Bangalore, Hyderabad, the capital city of Delhi, and Mumbai, amongst others.
