The announcement of Thierry Delaporte’s departure as Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and Managing Director (MD) of Wipro, a prominent software business in India, garnered media attention. Just 14 months remain in Delaporte’s five-year mandate, so his resignation marks a dramatic change in the balance of power.

The Departure of Delaporte

It was originally planned for Delaporte, who became the company’s CEO and MD in July 2020, to serve as its leader until July 2025. Nevertheless, his term was abruptly ended, and on April 6, 2024, he resigned. He will formally leave his role on May 31, 2024, according to a regulatory filing by Wipro

Srini Pallia: The Upcoming Pioneer of Wipro

Wipro has selected Srinivas Pallia as its new CEO and MD, filling Delaporte’s position. Pallia is a seasoned employee of Wipro with a stellar career spanning more than thirty years. Having held a number of executive positions, such as President of the company’s Consumer Business Unit and Global Head of Business Application Services, he brings a plethora of experience and knowledge to his current job.

Support and Goals

Wipro founder Azim Premji’s son Rishad Premji expressed trust in Pallia’s abilities to guide the business into its next stage of expansion and profitability. Pallia is the perfect fit for the position because of his growth mindset, client-centric approach, and dedication to the company’s principles, all of which complement the company’s strategic goals.

Industry Views

Experts in the field, like Constellation Research founder R “Ray” Wang, see Pallia’s appointment as a calculated move by the company. Pallia has a strong grasp of the Wipro culture and experience navigating the company through technological changes, making him well-suited to lead the company through its next stage of development.

The company’s stock price increased significantly during Delaporte’s direction, more than tripling from 222 to 485.

With Srini Pallia taking over as CEO and MD, everyone’s eyes are focused on the company’s future. It is well-positioned to manage the changing tech market and seize new chances for development and success, thanks to its experienced leadership and emphasis on innovation and customer-centricity.
