The largest urban sanitation and cleanliness survey in the world is represented by the Swachh Survekshan awards, which have been held annually since 2016 by the Union Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA) as part of the Swachh Bharat Urban Mission. This program encourages healthy competition between cities to improve garbage management and sanitation.

The fundamental purpose of Swachh Survekshan is to inspire extensive citizen participation and create awareness about the communal duty of making towns and cities better places to inhabit. In this year’s assessment, which is the eighth iteration, more than 3,000 assessors assessed 4,500 locations using 46 factors.

Maharashtra was ranked first among the states, followed by Madhya Pradesh then Chhattisgarh. Odisha took fourth place.

In addition to recognizing the achievements of Surat, Indore, and Navi Mumbai, the Clean City Awards highlight the commitment of Indian authorities and cities to promoting a healthier and cleaner urban environment. The honors serve as a reminder of the value of teamwork in creating livable, healthy environments.
