The DMK is opposed to the construction of a Hindu temple on the site of a mosque that has been demolished, and this has caused controversy surrounding the impending dedication of the Ram temple in Ayodhya, according to Tamil Nadu sports minister Udhayanidhi Stalin.

DMK Position on the Consecration of Ayodhya

DMK rejects building a temple by demolishing a mosque, according to Udhayanidhi Stalin, who earlier caused controversy with comments on Sanatan Dharma. He underlined that politics and religion shouldn’t be combined.

Historical Allusion to the Demolition of the Babri Masjid

Udhayanidhi Stalin brought up the Babri Masjid demolition in 1992 to illustrate the DMK’s position, saying that although they are not against building a temple, they are against building one after a mosque has been demolished.

In response to the AIADMK’s choosing not to attend the inauguration, Udhayanidhi stated that it was their own decision. They had previously despatched “kar sevaks” to Ayodhya, he sarcastically said.

A jab at Edappadi K. Palaniswami

Udhayanidhi joked that EPS crawling might be the cause of AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K. Palaniswami’s leg trouble when asked about his absence.

Stalin restated the views of his grandfather, MK Karunanidhi, highlighting that the party does not oppose any specific religion but is against building a temple following the deconstruction of a mosque.

Udhayanidhi had before declared that spiritualism and politics should not be combined while presiding over a torch relay at the party’s youth wing congress.

While skeptics contend that opposing the temple consecration on the basis of historical events could exacerbate polarization and undermine the spirit of religious harmony and reconciliation, Udhayanidhi stands up for the DMK’s stance. Critics stress the need of keeping historical complaints apart from the sociopolitical environment of today.
