Apple, a major US IT company, has declined to unlock Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s iPhone. The corporation denied the Enforcement Directorate access to the device’s data, citing its policy of safeguarding user privacy.

Request from Enforcement Directorate Rejected

In an effort to obtain access to Kejriwal’s iPhone as part of their probe into the excise policy scam, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) had made an informal contact to Apple. They, however, insisted that Kejriwal, as the owner, was the only one who could access the information on the device using the password he had created.

Kejriwal’s Response

Along with several other cell phones, Kejriwal’s iPhone was seized during an ED operation. Kejriwal allegedly declined to provide his password to the agency when they asked, citing discussions regarding his party’s electoral strategy and privacy concerns with regard to his data.

Charges Made Against Kejriwal

Kejriwal has been charged by the ED with providing “evasive replies” during interrogation, and they have shown evidence indicating that he may have been involved in bribery. The agency claims that Kejriwal asked a political figure for Rs 100 crore in return for benefits pertaining to the Delhi liquor sector.

Apple’s Policy Regarding User Privacy

  • Tim Cook, the CEO of Apple, has continuously maintained the company’s position on customer privacy and emphasized its dedication to preserving civil freedoms. Apple maintains its unwavering adherence to its principles and emphasizes the significance of safeguarding user data from unwanted access, even in the face of pressure from law enforcement agencies.
