AIMIM

Mohammed Asfan, a 30-year-old Hyderabadi man, is said to have been coerced into enlisting in the Russian Army after falling for a job fraud scheme. Sadly, he was killed in the extending war in Ukraine. Asaduddin Owaisi, the head of AIMIM, was contacted by his family and after confirming Asfan’s death, he contacted the Indian Embassy in Moscow.

AIMIM’s Attempts

Asfan was one of the almost two dozen Indians who Asaduddin Owaisi had actively worked to alleviate after being enticed to Russia by the prospect of well-paying employment. Owaisi informed the family about Asfan’s passing; he brought attention to the matter last month. The confirmation of Asfan’s death, in spite of their plea for assistance, adds to the terrible reality that those who fall victim to this false recruitment are confronted with.

Owaisi, the head of AIMIM, had voiced concerns about people from Gujarat, Karnataka, Jammu & Kashmir, Telangana, and Uttar Pradesh being duped into supporting the cause. He had written to the Minister of External Affairs, S Jaishankar, drawing attention to the predicament of those who had been tricked and forced into fighting in the war.

Pattern of Deception and Previous Incident

This unfortunate event comes just after the death of a 23-year-old Gujarati man who was duped by a false job offer and ended up joining the Russian Army during the conflict in Ukraine. On February 21, an airstrike in the Donetsk region claimed his life. There are worrisome signs that more Indians are being tricked into joining the Russian military and being compelled to serve in war.

The tragic deaths highlight how urgently this issue needs to be resolved, especially in regard to claims that different Indians were tricked into working as security assistants for the Russian military. Several individuals may be forced to fight with Ukrainian forces in border areas, according to allegations in the media.
